First experience 1: Interview

It was at 9pm when I realized that the printout of my resume had random dots on it due to the faulty printer. I had interview the next day. The first interview of my life and I wanted my resume to be perfect. My brother was not at home neither my dad. Mom was ill and she wasn't ready to send me out at that time. I called my friend to get the printout for me, he agreed and I mailed him. I was finally relieved for at least my efforts were satisfactory.

Fidelity investments, my first company. We were asked to reach the venue of interview at 9:15am and I was there around 9:10. We were asked to sit in the indoor stadium. I could see four shuttle badminton courts and one basket ball courts. The permanent markings of basket ball courts overlapped with that of the shuttle courts. The walls of the court as high as three floors was painted with green as I perceive (I am very bad at describing the colors). The gallery was opposite of the main entry to the stadium. I and my friend had to occupy the very corner of the gallery since all the other spaces were occupied before.

The projector was placed in the middle and I had no clue that I will not be able to see even a single word other than “FIDELITY” written in green. The presentation began at 10 O’clock. I got bugged very soon because I couldn't follow even a single word of the talk probably due to faulty sound system. Even then I managed to understand a couple of things. Next step in the process was the aptitude test. It got over at 12:45 and we were asked to gather in the stadium after lunch at 2:15pm.

We were talking and making noise the maximum noise we could. The recruiters entered carrying our evaluated aptitude papers. Perfect silence followed their entry. They began to call out the names of the ones who managed to crack the aptitude test and I was one of them. The moment my name was called I felt the heat flowing from my toes to the tip of my hair. I also heard a faint “OOOOOO” sound from the people who knew me closely. It was the best shock of my life.

The next round was technical and we were asked to shift to other room after reconfirming the names of the selected candidates. My turn was announced after about 30 minutes. My technical interview was in Room No. 5 and it went on up to 10 minutes. It was pure technical and about C++ which I had learnt in Aptech just because I fancy writing codes I got through it as well. Next was the HR interview. Do to the miscommunication between me and the interviewer in the early 2 minutes I thought I screwed up my FIRST INTERVIEW. All the rounds were completed around 5:30pm.

Finally it was the time for the results. It was 7:30pm. I was selected. I was selected in my first interview. And I was beyond cloud nine. It was 8 O’clock when I came out and I informed as many people I knew.  Getting a job probably might not be this rejoicing but I had enough reasons to celebrate my day. First of all I decided to attend the recruitment process only to have an experience and got the job. Also I managed to secure a job in my first interview ever.

My FIRST EXPERIENCE was indeed the best experience.
